With shops already full of Christmas goodies, though, it can be tough avoiding temptation. These low-calorie snacks have been a lifesaver so far, so I thought I’d share them along…

English Muffins

English Muffins English muffins make great low-calorie snacks. You can have 1 muffin with 1oz of lox for just 160 calories, and there’s a whopping 15g of protein in there, so you are sure to stay feeling full for longer. You’ll have more energy, too. Win.

2

Cucumbers and Cheese

Cucumbers and Cheese Okay, so this sounds odd, but it’s taking the world by storm. Even cafes around here have started offering this! Slice up enough cucumbers to fill 1.5 cups, and search the supermarkets for whipped cream cheese. This has fewer calories than standard cream cheese, due to increased air, so it’s much healthier. Cucumbers are a great water source, too, so they’ll fight bloating, as well as being only 100 calories. Win.

UPD:

Cucumbers and cheese make for a surprisingly delicious snack. Not only is it low in calories, but it is also packed with vitamins and minerals such as potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Furthermore, cucumbers are a great source of hydration, which helps to fight bloating. The most important part of this snack is the whipped cream cheese, which is lower in calories than traditional cream cheese due to its increased air content. This snack can be enjoyed as a light snack or a quick and easy lunch. Try it out for yourself and you won't be disappointed!

Pretzel Twists and Cheese

Pretzel Twists and Cheese Yep, you can have pretzels on a diet. 10 honey wheat pretzel twists and 1 cheese wedge come to around 190 calories, with 5g of protein and 5g of fat. There’s even a gram of fiber. You’ll satisfy all your salt, cream and crunch cravings, without blowing your diet.

4

Cranberries

Cranberries Cranberries are a great superfood. They contain antioxidants that boost your brain power, and they have even been accredited with assisting weight loss. The dried versions are still rather high in sugar, at 29g per quarter of a cup, but they are far healthier than sweets or cakes. That same quarter of a cup only contains 130 calories, and 3g of fiber, so it’s not all bad. Keep some on your desk!

5

Dark Chocolate and Butter

Dark Chocolate and Butter Another one that sounds a little odd, but is actually genius. Dark chocolate is really good for you, and low in sugar. It’s rich, too, so you only require a small amount to satisfy cocoa cravings. Have three squares, and spread each with unsalted almond butter for an extra treat. It’s well worth the 100 calories!

Popcorn

Popcorn Yep, popcorn can be a low-calorie snack too. Whip up some black pepper and parmesan popcorn for a savoury treat that is totally delicious, and will easily satisfy your munchies. It costs around 100 calories for a decent sized portion, and we bet you won’t finish it. There’s only 6g of fat, too.

7

Chia Pods

Chia Pods Chia pods are definitely the low-calorie snacks of the moment. They seem to be everywhere! A 6oz blueberry chia pod is as portable as a yoghurt, but it’s packed with healthy fats and fiber. They are made from chia seeds, blueberries and coconut milk, meaning they have a naturally sugary taste, but without processed ingredients. Each serving contains 130 calories, 3g of protein and 5g of sugar, along with a fantastic 7g of fiber.

These low-calorie snacks are designed to make dieting a lot less boring – forget rice crackers and longing for chips, and add some of these into your meal plans. After all, variety is the spice of life! Have you discovered any great low-calorie snacks? I’d love to try them!
