Salmon

Salmon Salmon and other fish high in Omega 3 fatty acids are some of the top brain and beauty foods you can eat. Other great seafood sources of Omega 3 fatty acids include herring, trout and halibut. I’m a big fan of halibut, trout and salmon and make them a regular staple in my diet. These fish are also low in mercury if you buy them wild and from a good source. Look for the Marine Stewardship Council seal on fish to ensure you’re eating the safest fish possible. Fish such as these can increase your beauty by giving you clear skin, increase your hair length and strength, keep your skin soft, moist and wrinkle free and also give you a natural glow. These foods are great for your brain because they enhance focus and memory, and they prevent and treat depression. Salmon and other Omega 3 rich fish contain energizing nutrients such as B vitamins and magnesium to improve cognitive function, reduce stress and aid in heart health.

Avocados

Avocados Avocados are one of my favorite foods and honestly, I don’t eat enough of them. Avocados are rich in B vitamins, healthy fats, potassium, magnesium, fiber and protein. Their healthy fats help to give you soft, moist and glowing skin free of acne. Avocados can also increase your hair growth and enhance its shine. Their healthy fats, B vitamins and antioxidants also help to improve your mood and memory. Avocados are one of the best foods to eat for depression since they contain high amounts of folate (Vitamin B9), which has been related to reduced stress and a healthier mood than diets without them.

Acai Berries

Acai Berries The hype about acai is no lie, ladies! This is one superfood we all need to be eating when we can. Yes, acai can be pricey, but it is worth every penny. I can honestly say my skin looks ten times better when I use acai powder or whole acai fruit each day. Acai contains a large amount of Omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids, and loads of antioxidants that fight free radicals. It can also improve your brain smarts due to these same nutrients. Acai has been linked to preventing and treating depression, lowering gastrointestinal stress, enhancing mood and memory, curing and treating acne in correlation with a healthy diet, and helping the body recover from stress. I find my mood and skin are better when I use it, and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted these same benefits. I buy organic, raw powdered acai, which is cheaper per serving than the whole fruit, which is also great.

Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds Chia seeds are one of my must have brain and beauty foods. Chia seeds are rich in magnesium, iron, B vitamins, potassium, fiber, Omega 3 fatty acids and protein. They are like little beauty and brain bombs, girls! Just 1-2 tbsp. per day can give you stronger hair, nails and better skin. I notice my overall complexion and mood are better with chia seeds than without them. They also help to bind to toxins in the gut and take wastes out of the body. This is extremely important for your mood and your skin since toxic buildup can create depression, headaches, constipation and poor skin. Chia seeds’ magnesium content also helps to aid in relaxing the nervous system and easing stress. I also love chia seeds for their ability to strengthen my hair and enhance the growth of my hair and nails due to the protein and high iron content.

Green Tea

Green Tea We usually think of green tea as a beverage, but since it is technically made from plant leaves, I’ve included it here anyway. Green tea is one of the best brain and beauty foods you can eat. For starters, green tea is rich in antioxidants and stress-busting properties. It contains L-Theanine, which helps to reduce stress and inflammation in the body. It can also help fight fatigue and improve age-related memory. I love enjoying it in the morning and late afternoon when I need to power through the rest of my day or combat stress. Green tea also helps to give you clear skin, prevent wrinkles, and improve your hair health due to the antioxidant profile it contains.

Spinach

Spinach One of the most basic green veggies is one we all need to be eating. Spinach is a serious beauty and brain boosting food. Spinach is rich in folate, B vitamins, magnesium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, fiber, chlorophyll and protein! Whoo! With that nutrient profile you’ll have better memory, enhanced mood, reduced stress, prettier skin and a trimmer tummy in no time! Eat it with eggs, throw it in a smoothie, eat it with a salad, or eat it however else you want; just be sure to eat it!

7

Cacao

Cacao Ah, quite possibly my favorite beauty and brain food is cacao, or raw chocolate. Cacao powder is my favorite low calorie way to enjoy this wonder food, which is the most antioxidant rich food of all other foods per ounce. It contains literally hundreds of natural chemicals that lower stress, increase energy, aid in focus, prevent depression, enhance the skin, increase hair length and shine, aid in nail growth, and can be great for your digestive system due to the high magnesium and fiber content. I love buying raw cacao, but you can also get some of the benefits from unsweetened cocoa powder. I buy all my cacao and cocoa powder online to save money.

Eating for your brains and beauty doesn’t have to cost you tons of money. It can also be pretty simple since you don’t need every superfood or health food out there to make a difference. I picked some of the most well-known, efficient sources I’ve used to date, but there are plenty more! Raw veggies are always great for you no matter what, and other foods like sweet potatoes, pumpkin, almonds and hemp seeds are great options I love as well. What are your favorite brain and beauty foods?
