7 Best Drinks to Fuel Your Body with ...

There are so many convenient drinks to fuel your body with today. Most are readily available in all grocery stores and do not cost a lot of money. Plus, they are usually drinks that we drink on a daily or weekly basis. In case you weren’t sure which drinks to fuel your body with on a regular basis, here’s a list of a few!

1 Water

Even though it is the most obvious one and I shouldn’t even have to say it, water is one of the most important drinks to fuel your body with! Water is low on sodium, sugar, fat and calories. However, even though water is refreshing it shouldn’t be the only source of body fluids, unless you have a well balanced diet, because fresh water does lack vitamins

Frequently asked questions

2 Milk

Milk is tough one for some people because they either find it gross or they are lactose intolerant. For those who find regular milk gross, try substituting cow milk for almond milk which actually has less fat than milk from a cow. Or, indulge the little kid inside of you and drink chocolate milk – although chocolate milk as more sugar than regular milk, it still contains the same amount of protein and calcium D which is important for bone health. As for people who are lactose intolerant, try lactose-free milks as well as soy, rich and almond milk.

3 Red Wine

A glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away! Apparently red wine can lower cholesterol, help with your heart’s health and many more benefits. Although we’re all pleasantly surprised that red wine is healthy for us, it’s still an alcoholic beverage so it should be drunk with caution.

4 Green Tea

Tea is always a good alternative to coffee because it contains much less caffeine. However, Green tea specifically is better than most teas because it’s jam packed with benefits. Some of the benefits include lowering cholesterol, reducing the risk of certain types of cancers, weight control and helping reduce allergies. So for all of you who aren’t wine drinkers, Green tea is a great alternative.

5 Orange Juice

My personal favourite of this list (I am a child on the inside), is orange juice... freshly squeezed juice is even better. Vitamin C, found in orange juice, is known for preventing heart disease and cancer. However, another good reason to down a glass of orange juice is Vitamin C helps your body to absorb iron faster which is ideal for people who have an iron deficiency.

6 Fruit Smoothies

A blend of fruits is a great way to get as many vitamins as possible. Even better, add non-fat yoghurt to your smoothies and you’ll be adding essential nutrients like calcium, thiamine, riboflavin and more. Fruit smoothies are a convenient, easy and fresh way to balance out a meal... especially if you’re treating yourself to a not so healthy meal.

7 Homemade Juice

Invest in a good juicer and start creating dozens of concoctions of fruit and veggie drinks. Fresh, homemade juice is a great way to boost your heart, energy, metabolism and immune system. In addition, homemade juices can be drunk during any time of the day so there’s no excuse to squeeze in at least one cup of juice in per day. An important tip is to purchase a juicer that juices the skin of the fruits and veggies as well since that’s where a good chunk of vitamins and nutrients exist.

Although fluids are an important part of any diet, a balanced meal that represents all four food groups is essential to a healthier lifestyle. However, a great first step to a healthier diet is to change the way you drink and what you drink! What are some of the drinks you fuel your body with?
