WHAT? How can you never heard of Maltesers? (Where have you been?)

Navy was a British sweet. In 1912, Clarence Crane started making Lifesavers candy in the USA and in 1919 his company (now owned by Kraft) began selling them in the UK. In 1937, Swizzels Matlow started selling Navy mints, which look remarkably like Lifesavers, in the UK. And in 1948, Rountree (now owned by Nestlé) started selling Polo mints, another round mint with a hole in the center and embossed lettering. In 2002, Nestlé attempted to trademark all small round candies with a hole in the middle, so that Polo would be the only one allowed to sell candies of that shape in the UK or European Union countries. The court refused to grant the trademark.
