Asparagus

Asparagus One of the best cleansing veggies out there is asparagus, and it is also one of my favorites! Asparagus is considered one of the best foods for women and for weight loss. It contains natural prebiotics that act like food for probiotics and the healthy bacteria in our digestive tracts, so it increases digestive and colon health. Yet, the benefits don’t stop there. This cleansing veggie is also rich in B vitamins, including folate, which is essential for women’s health, and B 6, which lowers stress levels. It is also super rich in potassium, making it a natural diuretic helping to cleanse the body of excess water weight. It also contains fiber to increase regularity and it tastes incredible grilled with a little lemon juice and black pepper, or raw by itself dipped in salsa or hummus. You can even buy it frozen and it works just as great.

2

Artichokes

Artichokes Another cleansing veggie you want to keep on your radar is the almighty artichoke! Artichokes are one of the most digestive friendly and liver friendly veggies out there. Artichokes have the ability to help the liver to produce bile to remove fatty acids and transport waste out of the body. They also increases regularity due to their high fiber content. If you like to prepare artichokes fresh, great! I, however, find that buying the organic canned hearts is a much easier, faster and less expensive option. Artichokes have been proven to lower insulin levels and cravings for sweets as well, since they contain natural substances that curb your sweet tooth. I love them because they have a tangy, zippy taste, much like pickles! Rinse canned artichokes in water to remove excess salt and don't buy them soaked or marinated in oils. Experience a naturally detoxing and cleansing veggie you’ll soon learn to love. Put a few of the hearts after rinsing them on top of a salad or steam them. They're even tasty grilled too!

Romaine Lettuce

Romaine Lettuce Did you know one of the most basic greens out there is also one of the most cleansing? Romaine lettuce is one powerful green, and though kale is thought of as the super green, romaine also deserves a spotlight. Romaine is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, which protect the membrane of the brain and increase mental health, along with heart health. It cleanses the body due to its high water content and contains Vitamin K, which purifies the blood. Romaine is also deliciously sweet and crunchy, so it works well as a low calorie wrap or in a bed of salad greens. The Vitamin C content doesn’t hurt either. Vitamin C can cleanse your body, enhance your immunity, increase your skin health and prevent constipation.

4

Pumpkin

Pumpkin Pumpkin is one of the most underrated cleansing veggies out there. Pumpkin is rich in fiber, specifically soluble fiber, so it is great if you have digestive issues like IBS. It is also rich in potassium. Potassium is essential for cleansing since it flushes wastes from your body and balances your electrolytes. Pumpkin is filled with water and is also very low calorie and lower in sugar than winter squashes, so it won’t spike your blood sugar levels and cause your insulin to soar. I love organic canned pumpkin and put it in smoothies, baked goods, and even homemade sauces. Pumpkin can help prevent and cure constipation, bloating, and acne. Pumpkin is rich in Vitamin A in the form of beta carotene, which detoxifies the body and enhances the skin. I keep a can on hand all the time since I can testify that it will make my skin prettier faster than any cream out there I’ve ever tried. The Farmer's Market brand is also free of BPA lining in their cans if you're concerned about BPA in canned foods.

5

Onions

Onions They may stink but they sure are great for you! Onions should be a top food priority in any cleansing routine. Onions flush water waste out of the body and act as a prebiotic, which is food for the healthy bacteria in your body. Onion is rich in inulin, the prebiotic fiber that sustains and boosts gut health, along with being rich in nutrients. Onions are also a top detox food because they are considered a sulfuric food. Sulfur foods like garlic, onions and even eggs are great for the liver because of their high sulfur levels. Sulfur cleanses the liver and rids the body of toxins, and onions are one of the cheapest and tastiest ways to get your daily dose in. Chop them into omelets, salads, stir-fries, or make homemade dressings and sauces with them. Just be sure to chew some gum afterwards if you’re out with your man! Don't give any of these or garlic to your dogs since they're toxic to pups!

Garlic

Garlic Like I said, along with onions, garlic is one of the most potent detoxifying and cleansing veggies you can eat. Garlic has been said to kill yeast in the body and enhance digestion health. It is also great for flushing toxins out of your body and enhancing immunity. I will admit, after taking garlic, I always feel more energized than if I don’t include this stinky, yet delicious food into my diet, and it knocks a cold out ASAP! Garlic also tastes incredible, which makes it easy to add to almost anything.

7

Celery

Celery Celery is another great cleansing veggie and it's rich in Vitamin K, fiber and water. It is also rich in potassium, so it along with asparagus and cucumbers, it acts like a natural diuretic to the body, flushing out water wastes, while still maintaining hydration. Celery promotes regularity as well and can balance and lower blood pressure levels. It makes a great food to snack on if you’re stressed!

8

Cucumbers

Cucumbers Okay technically, cucumbers are a fruit, but I’ve included them in this list because most people associate them as a veggie and they are detox all-stars! Cucumbers are 96% water and are wonderful for increasing bowel health and kidney health. Cucumbers flush wastes from the body and are a wonderful source of Vitamins A and C. They are also rich in silica, which promotes beauty health. Silica keeps the hair, skin and nails in top shape, but be sure you eat the skin if you want these benefits, and do buy organic when possible.

9

Beets

Beets I have to admit, I’m not a huge beet fan, but I do love them roasted and eat them because they are so darn amazing for you! I actually do like beet greens, which are also cleansing and full of nutrients. I like to steam them with some garlic and lemon and even throw them in a smoothie for a beautiful bright pink color. The greens actually taste sweet too, much like beets. When you roast beets, they turn to a sweeter, caramelized veggie, but don’t worry; cooking them doesn’t take away their detox powers! Beets cleanse the liver and remove waste, along with increasing your heart health. They also help with low energy levels, and many athletes regularly consume beets for their effects on oxygen levels in the blood. Beets are rich in folate as well, which makes them a wonderful food for women. Try them any way you can until you like them. I actually enjoy juicing with them too. They also make my skin glow, just like pumpkin.

Like I said, most all veggies are cleansing, but these 9 are some of the best for your buck. I love learning what veggies other people are loving, so spread your knowledge! What cleansing veggies do you eat each day?

@Tia Coss buy a real small cooking pumpkin and roast it with olive oil! Or try sweet potato, it's twice as healthy and easier to find

Pumpkin in a bowl chilled, then drizzle with honey and sprinkle on cinnamon. Delicious for snack!

Hey heather! I was wondering what canned pumpkin you get? Eg puréed or do they sell another form that is better for you?

Very helpful. I try to eat most of those veggies and I guess I must aim for more. Thanks

Until today I had thought that garlic was a herb ...

What's the veggie in the pic?
