7 Comforting Tea Recipes to Make This Winter ...

I’m always on the hunt for healthy tea recipes during the winter, and herbal tea is probably one of my favorite beverages to enjoy multiple times on a daily basis. Herbal teas are naturally caffeine free and very calming to the body, but they aren’t the only options for consuming tea in a healthy, comforting fashion. Tea has been used for centuries as a natural healing beverage, and it has multiple benefits ranging from your brain health, digestive health, muscular health, circulatory health as well as many benefits to the nervous system as well. You can choose from black, green, white, and herbal forms of tea, along with certain cultural specialty forms of tea at your supermarket, or a trendy tea shop. Though black, green, white and oolong teas have caffeine, they still offer many comforting properties to the body that are worth our attention. If you’re having body aches, trouble sleeping, or just need something to quell your anxiety, pick up a box of tea next time you’re at the store. Or, try some of these recipes below and make your own!

Soothing Coffee Bar Chai Tea

Soothing Coffee Bar Chai Tea Chai tea is one of the most popular forms of tea that people enjoy, and one of the easiest tea recipes to make at home. It’s rich in natural antioxidants from the tea, and soothing benefits from the chai spices. With milk added, some of the antioxidants from the tea are reduced, since calcium decreases the absorption, however, the calcium will help to comfort you, and you’ll still retain plenty of benefits that the tea offers. Make this simple recipe at home and enjoy your own trendy chai tea, right in the comfort of your home.
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
2 cups water
4 chai flavored black tea bags ( I like Yogi’s Chai Rooibos blend for a caffeine-free option)
1 tsp. stevia, ¼ cup honey or ¼ cup your favorite sugar alternative
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice
dash of cardamom
2 cups milk or almond milk, unsweetened

Directions: In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add tea bags, stevia, honey or your favorite sweetener, and then add the vanilla. Season with pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice and cardamom. Simmer for 5 minutes. Pour in milk, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, and strain through a fine sieve. Serve and enjoy on a cold night for something comforting!

Honey Vanilla Chamomile Tea

Honey Vanilla Chamomile Tea I try to watch my sugar intake and don’t use honey too often in my recipes for this reason, even though it has health properties, especially in tea. This is one reason I like to use honey flavored tea instead. You can find many different brands that carry honey flavored tea. While it might not have the same benefits, it does offer a natural honey flavor without sugar. My favorite is a Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea by Celestial Seasonings, and the recipe below has been one I’ve made for years anytime I can’t rest, or my stress just takes over. If you find yourself in the same boat, make a cup of this tea. It’s so simple and will send you into a sweet, calming dreamland.
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 bag of Celestial Seasonings Honey Chamomile Tea ( this blend is caffeine free)
your choice sweetener
2 tbsp. unsweetened almond milk
dash of cinnamon
Directions: Boil 2 cups water on the stovetop. Place the tea bag in a large mug and pour the boiling water over it. Let it steep for five minutes and then add your milk and cinnamon. Enjoy before bed, or after a stressful afternoon. This also makes a great tea for the cold and flu season.

Apple Spice Green Tea

Apple Spice Green Tea I love green tea, especially matcha tea, which is higher in antioxidants than any other tea. Green tea is great for the metabolism, brain, heart, nervous system and the digestive system. It’s also incredibly balancing to the hormones as well. I usually enjoy it with stevia and lemon, but for a tasty, calming twist, I also like this apple spice recipe for green tea. Try this and let me know what you think!
Serves: 4
Ingredients: 4
4 cups water
sweetener of choice, either 15 drops liquid stevia, 2 tbsp. honey, 2 tbsp. coconut sugar, or 1 tsp. pure stevia extract powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ tsp. ground ginger
⅛ tsp. ground cloves
1 apple of choice, seeded and coarsely chopped, plus additional apple for slices for serving
1/3 cup loose green tea ( I like matcha)
Directions: Boil the water in a large pot on the stove. Once it starts to boil, reduce to medium heat and add the loose leaf tea, along with the spices and sweetener. Stir well for a few minutes with a whisk to combine everything. Next, add 1 chopped apple of choice ( I like Golden Delicious for a sweet taste), and let it steep for 10 minutes on low heat. Come back and pass through a strainer into a large bowl. Measure 4 servings with a ladle, and enjoy with a slice of lemon, or pour into a pitcher and keep it in the fridge. If you don’t have apples, feel free to use a touch of apple cider vinegar after you boil it. While it’s not the same flavor, it will give it a lovely, sugar free apple taste. If you’re making this for a party, feel free to garnish each mug with a single apple slice ( very thin) from another fresh apple.

Berry Bliss Green Tea

Berry Bliss Green Tea I’m a huge fan of green tea in almost any form or fashion, due to its many health benefits, and calming properties. One flavor that pairs incredibly well with green tea is berries. While I’m not into artificial flavors at all, I do enjoy naturally flavored berry tea. You will find that most brands will carry a berry flavor, and so long as it’s not artificial flavoring, I highly recommend trying them out for yourself. They’re all sugar-free, and make a delicious addition to green tea. Try this recipe below, which tastes wonderful over ice, or brewed hot for a soothing, stress-reducing beverage. If you have this close to bedtime, just drink decaf tea to avoid sleep disruptions.
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 bag of decaf green tea ( or regular)- I like Yogi Decaf Green tea
1 bag of berry flavored tea ( I like Celestial Seasonings True Blueberry herbal tea)
sweetener of choice
lemon
ice ( optional)
Directions: Boil 2 cups water on the stovetop. Place the tea bags in a large tea mug and pour the boiling water over the tea bags. Add the sweetener and cinnamon if using and let it steep 5 minutes. Last, add a squeeze of lemon and enjoy hot, or let it cool, pour it over ice and enjoy it cold. You can remove the tea bags, or leave them, which is what I usually do. Enjoy!

Pomegranate Ginger Green Tea

Pomegranate Ginger Green Tea Have you ever had pomegranate tea? It’s delicious! Pomegranates are actually one of the lowest sugar fruits you can consume. They’re also higher in antioxidants than most fruits, and especially great for fighting wrinkles. I’m all up for that as I approach my 30s, let me tell you! With the powers of green tea added, the antioxidant load is increased, and they make a smashing flavor combination! I like to add fresh ginger slices for a slightly spicy, soothing blend. Ginger is also very calming, and a potent digestive aid. Enjoy this hot, and if you have any leftovers, pour it in a jar and pop it in the fridge. It’s great over ice the next day since the flavors have longer to meld together.
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
2 cups water
2 bags of green tea
2 thin slices of ginger
2 fresh lemon wedges
4 tbsp. crushed pomegranate seeds ( or you can use a pomegranate flavored tea bag(
sweetener of choice
Directions: Cover green tea with boiling water, ginger, lemon wedges, pomegranate seeds, and sweetener. Let tea steep for 5-10 minutes and remove. Strain through a colander or sieve and enjoy. If you’re using a pomegranate flavored tea bag, just add it instead of the seeds. Enjoy hot or pour it into a jar and keep it in the fridge to enjoy later over ice.
