It’s always sad when summer ends and all those cold drinks you enjoyed on the patio all summer long are no longer practical. I mean, who wants an iced beverage when it’s snowing and frigid outside? Turns out you can heat some of your favorite summer drinks for the winter so that you can enjoy your favorites even when the temperature dips outside. Try one of these hot drinks and you’ll feel a little bit of summer back in your life. Enjoy!
1. Iced Tea
My favorite drink in the summer is a tall, frosty glass of iced tea, but maybe you don’t want that when there are snowflakes falling from the sky. Problem solved! Heat your tea with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and you can still sip your favorite. The great news is that tea bags come in a fantastic array of flavors that taste really great heated up.
There’s nothing like a large iced chai when the heat is on. I love the flavor of chai with its unique blend of spices. You simply can’t match it! When it gets cold outside, I like to make my chai hot. You can use a chai pod in your Keurig, then add honey and milk to create a creamy hot drink that you’ll crave all the time.
3. Chocolate Milk
They say that chocolate milk is perfect after a workout, but it might not be that appetizing when the mercury dips. You can heat up chocolate milk into a wondrous drink called hot chocolate. There are so many flavors and ways to make it that you can try a new one each and every day. What’s your favorite?
Horchata is a Mexican cinnamon drink that is typically served over ice. If you haven’t tried it yet, you have got to do it today. Only, you need to have it hot for the winter. Heat the horchata and you will have a winter drink that you won’t be able to get enough of. You can buy horchata mix or you can make your own, using, rice, cinnamon and milk. This sugary concoction will make any cold day better.
5. Cranberry Juice
Juice might not be the first thing you think of when you want a hot drink, but warm cranberry juice is actually quite delicious. Simply put a mug of it in the microwave and make it hot. Sip it slowly when it’s cold outside and you’ll be warm instantly. Add a bit of orange juice and cinnamon for a holiday treat you’ll love sharing.
6. Irish Cream
Need something a bit stronger? Irish cream is the perfect choice. You can sip it chilled, but it’s also delicious warm. Enjoy a shot or two heated in the microwave or add it to your favorite hot drink. It tastes absolutely delicious blended into a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Just be careful not to drink too much. It can get you!
For me, milk is great for extreme thirst when it’s hot outside. Turns out it’s also wonderful heated. Did your mom ever give you warm milk to help you sleep? It’s great for warming you from the inside out and helping your relax on a cold night. Add a dash of honey and nutmeg to your warm milk and your taste buds will be totally blown away!
