It’s not very easy to start a low-carb diet, however it’s actually really beneficial to your health to do so. We don’t need all of the white bread and carbohydrates we tend to put into our bodies on a daily basis. However, it can be daunting to think about starting a low-carb diet. What can you eat? It seems like everything has carbs in it, to some extent. However, that’s not always the case. There are a lot of different foods you can try that won’t make a low carb diet seem so horrible.
1. Sweet Potato Chips
Sometimes you just need to eat something salty. You may want to turn to the closest bag of potato chips. The next time you want to do that, reach for a bag of sweet potato chips instead. They’re not as salty, but they’re just as good, and they have a fraction of the carbs, which is perfect for trying out a low-carb diet.
You’d be shocked how many meals you can get out of an egg. They’re great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and can be prepared in an insane amount of different ways. Find your favorite way to eat an egg, and you’ll have a quick and easy meal for your lazy days when you don’t necessarily feel like cooking. One of my favorite ways to eat eggs are in omelets or frittatas, because they fill you up so quickly!
3. A New Vegetable
Try out a new vegetable that you would never have considered trying before. You may hate it, but there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll like it. It may even become your new favorite snack for your busiest days! Even if you don’t like that certain vegetable, there are always different other vegetables you can try out!
4. A New Fish
I’m not a huge fan of fish, so trying out some new types of fish was important when I tried out a low-carb diet myself. Fish are a great way to fill up without the carbs, so if you think you don’t like fish, simply try out a few of them. If you do like fish, try one that you never thought to try out. It may become your new favorite meal!
5. Lettuce Wraps
Lettuce wraps are an easy way to forgo carbs, especially because they’re becoming more mainstream in restaurants. On the days you find yourself missing carbs, or maybe you’re really tempted to get a sandwich at a restaurant, opt for a lettuce wrap instead.
6. Different Salads
You don’t realize how many salad options a restaurant offers until you stop eating carbs. Try a different salad at every restaurant you go to. If you keeping ordering a Caesar salad at every restaurant you go to, you’re bound to get sick of Caesar salads, and in turn your low-carb diet. Keep mixing it up, and you won’t get bored of your lifestyle change!
Nuts are simply the easiest snack to take with you on the go when you’re trying a low-carb diet. Life gets busy and it’s easy to reach for the closest snack when you’re in a rush. If you keep nuts on hand, though, you’ll stay full and you won’t want to reach for the fried chips or other unhealthy foods!
8. String Cheese
String cheese is another great snack, however it’s more difficult to bring with you on the go. If you’re a cheese fanatic like myself, string cheese is the perfect low-carb snack for you!
If you’re simply looking to cut out the white bread in your diet, smoothies are a great way to fill up. They’re easy to make, and usually only require your favorite fruits and some ice, making it a simple way to forgo carbs!
