7 Easy and Healthy Ways to Make a Detox Drink ...

I'm sure many of you have heard of some ways to make a detox drink, but I’d like to show you a few that don’t involve maple syrup, cayenne, and lemon juice as your only option. I also don’t suggest you opt for those fresh-pressed juices that sell for the cost of my normal grocery bill! No, instead, try a few of my simpler ways to make a detox drink that have nothing to do with dieting. Instead, they’re a fantastic way to reset your system, give you plenty of vitamins and minerals, and give you a boost of energy to start your day the right way!

1

Consider a Juicer

Consider a Juicer One of the first tips I’ll share with you for some easy ways to make a detox drink is to consider getting a good juicer. Breville makes a great line, and some start out very low in price. These will make all the difference in your detox success! I have a Bella NutriPro juicer, which you can get online for around $175. It’s a slow juicer, also known as a masticating juicer, which means it extracts the most nutrition out of your juice as possible. A shot of pure veggie juice is one of the greatest ways to detox your body in a safe and healthy way!

2

Go for Green

Go for Green When making a detox drink, you want to focus on greens in your drink above fruit, whether in a juice recipe or a smoothie. Fruit is healthy but high in sugar, and can mess with your blood sugar levels. Greens are what will really help your body to detox, and support you with nutrition to keep you feeling well and give you the nutrients you need. Some of my favorites to juice and blend with are kale, spinach, romaine, celery, chard, arugula, cilantro, peppermint, parsley, cucumber, and zucchini. If you need a little fruit, a slice of a green apple or a couple tablespoons of berries are fine.

3

Add a Spice

Add a Spice Another way to detox your system and support your digestion is to add a variable of spice. I like fresh ginger root both in my smoothies and juices, but have also used turmeric root. A dash of cayenne isn’t a bad idea either, and it can really add a nice savory element to the taste. Even green or hot peppers can be used if you're up for it! A spicy element will help detox your liver, and also speed up digestion to eliminate toxins.

4

Try Beets

Try Beets Beets are known to be one of the best detox veggies for the liver out there. They’re high in anti-viral properties and contain a huge amount of antioxidants to support your liver and your blood. They have also been shown to help increase oxygen flow in the body, and they're beneficial to athletes for this reason. You can use raw or steamed beets in a smoothie, and juice with them too. I know this might seem strange at first, but they give your drinks a lovely pink color, and have a nice sweet taste.

5

Use Citrus

Use Citrus Citrus foods like lemons, limes, and grapefruits have strong detox principles. In fact, they not only speed up digestion, but also heal the lining of the gut walls, which can become inflamed for many reasons. They are also low in sugar, and high in Vitamin C. Adding a little lemon to a smoothie, lime peel to a juice, and piece of grapefruit here and there will go a long way in adding flavor and detox benefits to your detox drinks.

Try New Flavors

Try New Flavors One tip when making detox drinks is to never use the same ingredients over and over. For one, it gets boring, and number two, it’s good for your body to get in a variety of nutrition. Rotate your greens, herbs, spices, and your citrus sources. And remember, you never know just how good something might taste that sounds strange at first! One of my favorites is combining romaine, ginger, lemon, lime, cilantro, and parsley. You’d think this might taste strange, but as a juice, it’s deliciously sweet and savory at the same time.

7

Blend and Strain

Blend and Strain If you want to make a juice but don’t have the money for a juicer right now, don’t worry! You can use your blender and strain the ingredients to make your own homemade juice. You’ll still get a high dose of nutrition, and save a little money in the process. You can also just opt to blend the ingredients and keep all the fiber to drink it as a smoothie instead.

Making your own detox drinks is such a wonderful way to increase the appearance of your skin, manage your blood sugar, and help you fight sugar cravings. However, don’t fall into temptations for those pricey cleanses or juice fasts. Be sure you eat meals throughout the day, and add detox drinks to your routine. This is the healthiest way to consume detox drinks, not as a quick dieting method. Do you make detox drinks? Have a tip to share?
