Eat These Foods before a Workout to Keep Your Energy up ...

Rosalina

We all need the right type of fuel to help keep our energy levels up and get the best from our workout routine. As tempting as it might be to grab a candy bar or a meal replacement bar, they're often full of artificial nasties which might give a quick sugar rush but that will also give an equally swift sugar low. Here are some healthy pre-workout foods that will give you the energy to have a great workout whilst still packing a nutritional punch.

Awesome Oatmeal

Awesome Oatmeal Oatmeal truly is awesome and isn't just for your morning meal. Oatmeal is great because it gradually releases sugar into your blood stream. I eat oatmeal any time of the day as it's packed with so much goodness and when it's made with skimmed milk and sprinkled with crushed flaxseeds, you will have the energy to sustain your workout.

2

Sensational Cereal

Sensational Cereal Cereal is another great pre-work out food but there are so many on the market which are full of sugar and artificial additives so be sure to check the label before you start reaching for the cereal packet at the supermarket. Add a sprinkle of berries to your cereal and some low-fat milk or dairy alternative and you have the perfect pre-workout fuel.

3

Peanut Butter...Need I Say More

Peanut Butter...Need I Say More Peanut butter is probably one of my favorite foods. It's often given a bad rap because of the fat content but I believe in everything in moderation...including moderation! Providing you don't eat peanut butter all day, every day, there is no reason you can top your apple slices or celery slices with peanut butter and raisins and enjoy a great workout.

4

Beautiful Bagels

Beautiful Bagels Bagels are brilliant and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. They're surprisingly high in protein and when topped with peanut butter and sliced banana, you have a delicious pre-work out snack that will give you the energy you need to see you through that workout.

5

Perfectly Poached

Perfectly Poached This sounds like breakfast and it's a great way to start the day. This also means it's a wonderful way to see you through your workout. Top your whole-wheat toast with a perfectly poached egg and then indulge in 1/2 a grapefruit.

Super Smoothie

Super Smoothie Smoothies are great, particularly before your workout. There is no end to the amount of super healthy ingredients you can add to your pre-workout smoothie. Make yours with low fat yoghurt and berries and you'll have the energy for a great workout. You could even add a little oatmeal and crushed flax seeds. The possibilities truly are endless where smoothies are concerned.

Sensational Salad

Sensational Salad I know what you're thinking, a salad before a workout, where will I get my energy?! Well, there are some great ingredients you can top your salad with like orange, mango or mandarin slices, almonds, veggies and a drizzle of olive oil. It really is delicious and perfect for those who like to mix sweet and savory ingredients together.

8

Perfect Parfait

Perfect Parfait Granola is another food which many consider a healthy option but that is actually packed full of sugar. Be sure to check the label and go for a low fat/low sugar granola. Mix with some home-made fruit compote or chopped fruit and low-fat Greek yogurt and you're ready to go.

9

Rice and Vegetables

Rice and Vegetables Brown rice is a nutritious food which will give you the energy you need and steamed veggies are super healthy. Sprinkle this combination with a little cheese and you will have a superb snack which will super-charge your workout.
