7 Fabulous Foods for Healthy Joints and a Happy You ...

As I'm getting older, I'm becoming increasingly conscious of my joints and bones, and there are some fabulous foods for healthy joints and a happy you. I have always been health conscious and even if you're under 30, it's certainly worth thinking about joint health in the long run (excuse the pun). Think of your body like a bank in which you make deposits daily. What you eat has an effect on your future health and well-being and you want a healthy 'body bank' balance for a long life with supple joints so you can dance for longer! If you're like me and like to keep active by exercising regularly, it's important to keep those joints super healthy, so here are some foods for healthy joints.

1

Avocado

Avocado The humble avocado is one of those fabulous foods for healthy joints. If you're avoiding it due to its generous fat content you're missing a treat because it is filled with so many healthy fats and nutrients. It is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids, which help lubricate the joints, keeping them super supple and reducing arthritic symptoms. Go on, throw some on your salads!

2

Salmon

Salmon Salmon's high protein content helps the body build healthy connective tissue. It's also high in omega 3 oils, which are anti-inflammatory and help keep the skin elastic. Not only that, they help prevent wrinkles. So not only do you feel young and fit, you'll look amazing and youthful too!

3

Ginger

Ginger Ginger is often used to settle an upset tummy. Not only is it great for digestive health, it contains powerful anti-inflammatory oils and can also help alleviate arthritic pain. It's a versatile root that can be added to teas, syrups, smoothies and stir fries. Be sure to choose the freshest ginger root as this will contain the most nutrients and will be more flavoursome.

4

Rhubarb

Rhubarb Although rhubarb is traditionally used in desserts like crumbles and fruit pies, it's actually a vegetable. Rhubarb is great for bone health as it contains calcium and Vitamin K, which helps to lock calcium molecules together inside the bones and which protects them against fracture, something we're a little more prone to as we age.

5

Green Beans

Green Beans Green beans are a staple part of my diet and there's a good reason for this. They're great for boosting energy, as they're higher in iron than spinach. They're good for the skin, hair and nails and they're a fabulous detox food. Just when you thought those were enough reasons to run out and deplete your local supermarket of their entire stock, they're also great for bone health, containing that wonderful vitamin K which helps calcium work its magic.

Pineapple

Pineapple This is one of my favorite fruits and is a real thirst quencher on those hot summer days. This really is a super fruit and can help treat sore throats, aid digestion and boost men's fertility. The core of the fruit contains the powerful enzyme bromelain, which is an anti-inflammatory and which can help treat arthritis and can also speed recovery after sports injuries.

7

Figs

Figs Figs can be eaten either in their fresh state or dried. The dried figs are still high in nutrients and can be added to your cereals or eaten as a healthy alternative to chocolates and sweets when that sugar craving takes hold. They are still high in sugar so don't go overboard! As well as being great for digestive health and alleviating those periods of constipation that we all get every now and then, they are great for your bones. Their high level of calcium and potassium means they help strengthen your bones and keep them nice and healthy.

There are many other foods out there to help keep your joints healthy and the key is to have a varied diet so that you can benefit from a range of nutrients. What foods do you eat for healthy, happy joints?
