7 Finger Licking Pizza Toppings You've Probably Never Tried ...

By Eliza3 Comments

Pizza – a girls’ best friend, right? I love a good slice of pizza just about any time. And it’s such a crowd pleaser so you can never go wrong serving it to friends and family. Are you tired of the same old pizza toppings or do you just want to try something new? Either way, branching out can help you discover new and delicious things to eat when a pizza craving strikes. Here are some toppings that you probably haven’t tried. Let me know what you think!

1 Broccoli Florets

I think broccoli gets a bad rap. After all, it tastes good raw or cooked and it’s loaded with nutrients. When you pile it on pizza, it gets this really yummy roasted flavor that pairs wonderfully with cheese. Broccoli is great on a veggie pie, but it also tastes great combined with sausage.

Frequently asked questions

2 Creamy Avocado

For a long time, I would never have thought to eat avocado warm. But once I did, I wished I hadn’t waited so long. Heating avocado chunks on a pizza makes them even softer and creamier. They add loads of great flavor and a great texture to your pizza. Avocado pairs deliciously with bacon, garlic and tomatoes. You want to try it, don’t you?

3 Slices of Squash

There’s this little pizza place near my house that makes the most wonderful squash and goat cheese pizza. I was skeptical at first. I love squash, but on pizza? I’m so glad I gave it a try because it’s one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Luckily, it’s super easy to recreate this at home. You won’t be sorry!

4 Buffalo Hot Sauce

Here’s something you are going to love. Skip the tomato sauce on your pizza and sub in buffalo wing sauce instead. Then scatter the pizza with chopped chicken, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and green onions. When it’s done, drizzle the whole thing with ranch or bleu cheese dressing. Yum!

5 Spicy Arugula

Arugula is a peppery tasting leafy green that is wonderful in salads. It also rounds out a slice of pizza just right. It’s best to pile it on after the pizza cooks because then you get to experience the best of its fresh flavor. Arugula is perfect on a veggie or plain pepperoni pizza, but I say experiment and see how else you might love it.

6 Sweet, Juicy Grapes

I know this sounds weird, but grapes appear on gourmet pizza menus all the time. Why? Because they taste great with cheese so why not try them on a crust? Green grapes are an outstanding choice and work well with any kind of cheese you desire. Add some pine nuts to the top and you have a meal you’ll want to eat all the time.

7 Heavenly Shrimp

There’s something really decadent about shrimp, don’t you think? You might not think to put it on pizza, but it works! Combined with veggies or pineapple, you have a meal fit for a king. If you want to get really gourmet, consider cooking your shrimp in butter and garlic before putting them on your pizza. What could be better?

Are you dying to try any of these pizza toppings? Do you have any other delicious ideas to share?
