When it comes to working out, one of the biggest things you need to think about is what kind of food you are going to eat in order to give yourself that sustainable energy to be able to enjoy some really effective exercise. If you have ever made certain mistakes before, you will know exactly what I’m talking about when I say that ingesting the wrong ingredients can be disastrous! Working out is hard enough to begin with and you don’t need the extra hassle of having to contend with an upset stomach! Here are seven foods that you should never eat before a workout!

1. Fibre Filled Foods
Fibre-rich foods are good in the bigger scheme of exercise because they can give you the long-lasting energy that you need, but you should never load up on things like whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta and oats just before a workout. They take longer for your body to digest, and therefore you might find that you experience gastrointestinal discomfort halfway through your work out.
2. Fizzy Drinks
Avoid fizzy sodas at all costs because the mixture of sugar and carbonation can lead to you feeling uncomfortable and bloated. You will experience a sugar crash and could also have stomach cramps as a result.
3. Nuts
Nuts are filled with healthy fats, but again, these fats take much longer to digest, and because of this your body won’t be sufficiently fuelled and you also run the risk of coming into digestive difficulties mid-workout.
4. Spicy Foods
They might satisfy your taste buds, but they won’t satisfy your exercise regime! Spicy food can cause heartburn which isn’t ideal for working out, and it also poses a bigger than average risk of causing you to have stomach cramps.
As part of taking control over your health and wellbeing, it's important to pay attention to the amount of sugar you consume daily. Did you ever wonder how many grams of sugar are in a teaspoon? Understanding this can help you make healthier choices and avoid those sneaky sugars that add up throughout the day. No doubt, your body will thank you!
5. Cruciferous Vegetables
These are the types of vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts. They are super high in something called raffinose, which is an indigestible carbohydrate that can trigger lots of gas and bloating.

6. Refined Sugar
Any type of junk food that contains a lot of refined sugar isn’t ideal, because a lot of it in your system can lead to a crash soon after consuming, which is the last thing that you want when you are mid workout. Avoid refined sugar, and opt for glucose based products instead.
7. Avocado
It might be the on-trend toast accompaniment right now, but avocado is another one of those foods that is packed full of healthy fats that take a very long time to digest. The longer it takes to digest, the more likely you are to have stomach issues if you work out straight after.
