You can make food look beautiful on the plate with presentation and fabulous colors. But there are some fruits and veggies that are so beautiful to begin with you don’t need artistic flair to make them look good. These fruits and veggies deserve Instagram accounts of their own they’re that cute. If only produce could take selfies – these would be the pinups of the greengrocery aisle.
1 Pineberry
Well, would you just take a look at this snazzy, sophisticated version of a strawberry! Pineberries are pretty amazing and look like the lovechild of a strawberry and pineapple. That’s a combination we can all get behind! This interesting hybrid fruit can be traced all the way back to the 18th century, and it has only grown in popularity since its invention.
Frequently asked questions
2 Cucamelon
Unsurprisingly, the cucamelon looks so much like a miniature watermelon that it even shares a similar name! However, the name is where the melon similarities stop, as the cucamelon actually tastes more like a sour cucumber.
3 Fiddlehead
This is perhaps my favourite name of them all! This unusual vegetable wouldn’t look out of place in any kind of fantasy movie fest scene with its unique curlicue shape. I can hear the character speaking in my head, “pass the plate of fiddleheads, would you old chap!”.
4 Oca
Don’t worry, that’s not an alien you see on your plate, it’s just a cute little oca! These are small little root vegetables that hail from New Zealand that possess a wonderful pink colour. Some say they look like little aliens, others say that they look like the limbs of a miniature sized Michelin Man, but one thing we can all agree on is that they are super cute and super delicious!
5 Feijoas
Feijoas might not possess the amazing vivid pink colour of the ocas, but these little fruits can still stand their own when it comes to the cute and healthy stakes! This fruit hails originally from Brazil and resembles a kind of egg-sized cucumber. It might not look like it on the outside, but feijoas are actually one of the most sweet and juicy fruits you would hope to eat!
6 Kantola
This cute little vegetable known as the kantola can be found growing in South Asia and part of India, and it can almost be described as the dinkier, pricklier cousin of a traditional lime. Though it looks like it might be super citrusy, a kantola actually tastes more like a gourd than anything else, but it’s definitely a hell of a lot cuter!
7 Cherimoya
These dinky little fruit aren’t native to a single place and can actually be found growing all over the world. You would be forgiven for thinking that it looks like a tiny miniature artichoke, and it kind of does on the outside, but on the inside is has been likened more to something like a ‘custard apple’, if you can imagine such a thing!
8 Water Apple
Though it is called a water apple, this tropical fruit is not an apple at all but rather a berry. It looks like the perfect tiny hybrid between an apple and a pear, but once again, these little delicacies love to fool us all, with this one tasting more like a snow pea than any pear or apple!
9 Lychee
The lychee is part of the soapberry family, and is that isn’t the cutest thing you’ve ever heard then I don’t know what is! These delicious little fruits are native to China, and you have probably sampled them in desserts in Chinese restaurants at some point in your life. They taste kind of like grapes but have rougher outer skin that makes them look a lot more interesting than their taste-sakes! I absolutely love this and there was always a plate of fresh ones every day in my hotel in India. Heaven!
