8 Healthy Snacks for on-the-Go ...

By Elizabeth

We live in a fast paced world, always on the go and in need of healthy snacks to take with us. It seems that we no longer have time to sit down for breakfast and lunch and eat healthy meals, but that doesn't mean you have to reach for a Pop Tart! Here are a few healthy snack choices to consider for your busy school or work schedule.

1

Fruit

Fruit Fruit is a wonderful, healthy snack choice for any age! Apples, bananas, blueberries and grapes are quick to eat, do not involve much mess and taste delicious! They are low in calories and the few calories they do have are great for you! If you have a little time to prepare fruit for your trip, you can pre-peel oranges, cut up melon, peel and slice kiwi or peaches, or slice off the tops of strawberries. Simply put these in a portable container and enjoy! Fresh fruit is one of my very favorite healthy snacks!

2

Nuts

Nuts Nuts are an incredible source of protein and they are tasty! Grab a bag of mixed nuts, with some good Brazil nuts and almonds in the mix. Peanuts are probably the least healthy for you, but a few peanuts would still be better than a Pop Tart, right?

3

Granola Bars

Granola Bars Just because the words "granola" and "whole grains" are on the box doesn't make a granola bar the most healthy snack choice out there. Fact is, many granola bars are nothing more than a candy bar when it comes to nutrition. However, there are a few exceptions. I love the Nature Valley Peanut, Almond & Dark Chocolate Protein Bars! So good! And they are healthy! Kashi also has good, healthy granola bars to eat. Whatever brand you choose, be sure to look at the label and choose one that is lower in sugar but high in protein and fiber.

4

Vegetables

Vegetables Ok, you knew I had to go there! You gotta get those veggies in, ladies! Grab you a Ziploc bag full of carrots or celery. Cucumbers and broccoli make great snacks as well. Personally, I like to add a little fat free ranch dressing for dipping, but this depends on how much I am running! Wouldn't want to be dipping and driving!

5

Cheese Sticks

Cheese is healthy for you! Just don't eat too much! Cheese sticks are a personal weakness of mine! I could eat them all day long! Do you like cheddar or mozzarella? Maybe a twist? I'm a twisty girl myself!

Rice Krispie Treat

Rice Krispie Treat If you're going for something sweet, a Rice Krispie Treat is something that is relatively healthy but satisfies your sweet tooth as well. Make up a batch and wrap them up separately. Grab one (and just one!) and head out! Ooh... now I want a Rice Krispie Treat!

7

Sweet Potato Chips

Sweet Potato Chips Satisfy your need for crunchy and salty and still be healthy! Slice up a sweet potato in thin slices, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, sprinkle the "chips" with salt and pepper (lightly) and bake at 200 degrees for about 50 minutes. Let them cool and Ziploc them up! You're ready to go! (Note: They will be soft when you take them out but will crisp up as they cool.) They keep for 3 days, so don't feel the need to eat them all at one time.

Pretzels

Pretzels Another salty snack that is delicious and healthy is pretzels. They come in small snack sized bags, or you can bag your own from a big bag. I like to mix them with a few pieces of dark chocolate bits. (Hey, a smidge of dark chocolate a day is good for you! Honest!) This is the perfect mix of sweet and salty. Yum!

On the go snacks do not have to be bad for you body. Healthy snacks are great for on the go. Be good to your tummy while being good to your body. Pay attention to what you're putting in, and I'm sure you will find that your energy output will make for a much more productive case. What kind of healthy snacks do you enjoy on the go? Please leave me a comment! I love to get new ideas for my own busy snack needs!

Try the almond clusters from Costco! Healthy and quick, who would have known? They also contain pumpkin seeds and other seeds.

@Leone Lobos there are some that are really low on sugar content so they are better for you

I love the sweet potatoes! I always have them before my track meets! They r great for that

im a tad bit confused because some say GRANOLA is not healthy and some articles say it is?

Low fat dairy has actually been proven to help LOSE weight-especially from your midsection!!

Love the idea about sweet potatoe chips. So delicious. Cheese clogs you up, its not the best thing for your body. Yogurt with 'cultures' helps you poop though.

@Victoria so they aren't the "most" healthy...but hey, we all need an indulgence every now and then, right? Better a rice Krispy than a honeybun :-)

@Rehab Salman Out of any chip/ salty snack, pretzels are one of the healthier choices. They are low in fat :-)
