The key to getting glowing, healthy skin is to consume hydrating whole foods. If you eat more water-rich foods, you will be supplying your skin with the hydration it needs to stay young and smooth. There are also vitamins and nutrients found in whole, fresh fruit and vegetables that give you clear skin. Incorporating some of these hydrating whole foods will supply your body with enzymes, nutrients, and vitamins that will help balance your body and make your skin glow.
These are the most water-rich of the hydrating whole foods I’m going to list. Cucumbers are composed of about 96% water content! That means cucumbers supply a great amount of necessary hydration to your skin when you consume them. Also, the water in raw cucumbers contains a rich amount of enzymes that help with digestion. If your digestion is assisted, that means your body can use the energy it would normally use for digestion towards healing your skin. You can freeze them and add them to smoothies, juice them, or add them to water for extra hydration.
This enzyme-rich fruit is also great for giving you glowing skin. It is rich in the enzymes that aid digestion, and like I said before, that gives our body more energy to use towards skin repair. Papaya is also rich in beta-carotene, the orange pigment that gives papaya its distinct color. Beta-carotene gets converted into vitamin A when it enters our bodies. Vitamin A is a very important nutrient as it repairs and maintains skin health. Papayas go great in smoothies, but you can also find dried papaya spears in some health food stores.
All berries are rich in antioxidants and water content to keep your skin glowing. Blueberries and blackberries are especially beneficial because they are darker in pigmentation. That means they are packed with even more antioxidants than other berries are. Antioxidants are beneficial in protecting the skin from damage. Blueberries are most powerful if consumed raw, so add them to smoothies or salads for a delicious nutrient boost.
During the summer, there is nothing more hydrating than a slice of watermelon. You can taste the high water content when you bite into these juicy fruits! It will get rid of any dry skin patches and hydrate and restore a healthy glow. Watermelon is also rich in vitamin C which is very beneficial to get glowing skin. I will note that watermelon is best consumed on an empty stomach without anything else to eat for another hour or two. Fruit digests quickly, and combining it with other, longer digesting foods may reduce some of its benefits.

Dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and chard all contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and nutrients you need to replenish your skin. Most are rich in vitamin C and A to protect and clear your skin. They also help in detoxification, meaning you can get rid of skin impurities caused by toxins in your body. Dark leafy greens make great additions to smoothies and fresh juices, or you can use them in a salad.
7. Bell Peppers
When you bite into a bell pepper, you can hear the crunch and taste the fresh water from it. Red bell peppers actually contain the most pigment lycopene, meaning they also have the most antioxidants. Plus, I think they taste the best! Bell peppers contain hydrating water and antioxidants that will make your skin glow if you consume them regularly. You can dip them in hummus or another dip, add them to stir-fries, or put them in salads.
As I’ve already discussed, the pigment lycopene found in red-colored fruits and vegetables is a powerful antioxidant. Tomatoes are often recognized as the main source for lycopene, making them very beneficial skin protectors. The lycopene is good for anti-aging and creating a healthy glow. Also, tomatoes are rich in vitamin A and C which are good for fighting against acne. The lycopene is said to be easier absorbed and more powerful when tomatoes are cooked. That makes them a great addition to soup, chili, and homemade dressings.
9. Coconut Water
Coconut water isn’t technically a food, it’s a drink, but coconut in general is such a good food for your skin it is worth sharing. However, coconut water is the most hydrating of the coconut products. It is proven to give you soft, glowing skin and is said to have anti-aging benefits. Eating raw, extra virgin coconut oil is also good for digestion and skin. In general, eating healthy fats from avocados, nuts, seeds, and coconut will help you build membranes for glowing skin. So make sure you are eating enough raw, healthy fats! Because coconut is best consumed raw, you can drink coconut water from a coconut or add it to smoothies.
If you want to get that beautiful, glowing skin of your dreams, just consume more colorful vegetables and fruit. They are generally going to have the most antioxidants and nutrients you need to get healthy skin. Starting with these hydrating fruits and vegetables will give your skin extra hydration as well.
