Do you ever get nostalgic for all the treats and favorite foods you enjoyed as a kid? I know I do! Peanut butter and jelly, potato chips, macaroni and cheese … you know how delicious those foods were. Just because you're grown up now, it doesn't mean you have to stop eating your old favorite snacks and foods. You can eat the original versions from your childhood, absolutely, or you can pair nostalgia with culinary creativity and try a few updated recipes that will tickle your nostalgia bone and rekindle your childhood memories!
1. Peanut Butter Buffalo Chicken Tenders
I know, I know, you might be a little skeptical about this updated childhood recipe, but stick with me a moment. Take a look at the video. Tell me that doesn't look a little delicious, or at least really interesting. Do you think you'd try it?
2. Grown up PB&J
Even if Peanut Butter Buffalo Chicken Tenders are a little too much for you, you definitely can't find fault with an updated, adult-friendly PB&J! This takes your favorite classic and makes it even better, not to mention just a wee bit more sophisticated. I definitely want to try this!
3. Potato Chip Chicken
I have to say, this is actually kind of brilliant. I remember that Lyndsie (my wife) once coated chicken in potato chips and then baked it. It was delicious! You have to be careful of all the salt on the potato chips, though. I've seen people do something like this with cornflakes too, but they're not quite as tasty as chips.
4. Mac & Cheese
Macaroni and cheese is honestly my favorite thing in the world. I love Kraft mac and cheese, I love the mac and cheese they serve at KFC and Boston Market, and I'll even eat frozen mac and cheese every once in a while. By far, though, my favorite recipes are all about homemade macaroni and cheese. And just remember, you can always add as much cheese as you want to.
5. Spaghetti 4 Ways
Spaghetti is a little like macaroni and cheese. It was so simple when we were kids – we happily ate it out of a can! It's also one of the easiest things to make, so it's often one of the first things we learn to cook as adults. This ain't the spaghetti you had as a kid, though. I promise you'll love at least one of the four preparations!
6. Fish Tacos
When we were kids, it was all about the fish sticks. Now, though? Now it's gonna be all about these fish tacos. Seriously, I don't even like fish and I gave these a try. I was pleasantly surprised! I wouldn't say I love fish, now, but I definitely love these tacos.
7. Pancakes for Breakfast
The best part? You're an adult now. You can have pancakes for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack!
