The Tastiest Twists on Classic Hot Chocolate ...

By Jordin

Looking for twists on hot chocolate to add some variety to the winter season? If you’re like me, you probably drink a lot of hot chocolate when it’s cold outside! I love good ol’ classic hot chocolate, but sometimes you need to mix it up! Here are some of my favorite twists on hot chocolate, along with some interesting things you can try to shake up your hot cocoa routine!

1 Add Mint Ice Cream

Of all the twists on hot chocolate out there, this is definitely a favorite of mine. Mint ice cream is delicious on its own, but mix in hot chocolate and you’ve got a creamy, chocolaty, minty drink that just screams “Christmas!” Make sure the cocoa is extra hot since the ice cream will cool it down quite a bit. Also, don’t be afraid to try other flavors of ice cream! Be adventurous!

2 Tropical Flavors

How about giving your cocoa a little tropical twist? Mixing in a little coconut milk and/or orange zest will bring your hot cocoa to a beachy level of Christmas. Hey, beach bums celebrate Christmas too! And even if you live somewhere cold and frigid, here’s a stellar way to make it FEEL as though you’re having Christmas on the beach this year!

3 Peppermint and Cinnamon

If you love your classic hot chocolate, but just want to add the smallest hint of zing or a touch of Christmas in your cup, try adding a cinnamon stick or a peppermint stick! It will infuse just enough flavor into your cup without being overwhelming, but still quite tasty and Christmassy, of course!

4 Peanut Butter

Ah, peanut butter and chocolate, a match made in heaven! Stir in a teaspoon of peanut butter while your cocoa is nice and hot. It will melt in smoothly, and you’ll have what tastes like a peanut butter cookie in a cup! This is another favorite twist on hot chocolate for me.

5 Coffee or Espresso

Here’s a way to punch up your morning brew. If you drink coffee on a daily basis, why not try mixing it with hot chocolate? It’s a great way to change up things for your taste buds, plus coffee and chocolate together are absolutely divine.

6 Hot Sauce

If you love spicy things or are just in the mood to try something altogether new, shake up your hot chocolate by mixing in a few drops of hot sauce! Then you’ll truly have “hot” chocolate! If you’re sensitive to spicy foods, this may not be for you. It’s definitely something interesting to try at least once!

7 White Chocolate Shavings

I love my white chocolate almost as much as my dark chocolate! Sprinkle a few white chocolate shavings on the top of your hot chocolate. It will melt in, giving you a dreamy, creamy, and sweet concoction!

Which of these twists for classic hot chocolate will you try first? My favorite is the mint ice cream! It adds so much creaminess and just the right amount of mint to my cocoa! If you’re throwing a Christmas party, a great idea would be to have a hot chocolate bar, and add these suggestions to the bar, along with anything else that strikes your fancy! It would be a hit with guests for sure! Thanks for reading and have a fabulous day, stalkers!
