Remember Jell-O shots, those tasty little treats featured at 80’s sorority parties? Well, they’re back, and they’ve gotten better with time… I’ve tried about a dozen delicious Jell-O shot recipes the past few months, and I have some definite favorites! If you’re planning a special event, and want to thrill your guests with something unique, fun, and drink-a-riffic, keep reading! Here are 7 amazingly tasty Jell-O shot recipes!
1. Lemon Wedge Jell-O Shot Recipe
These look like real lemon wedges, but of course, there’s the Jell-O shot kick! Empty out lemon halves so just the in tact peel «bowls» remain. Make lemon Jell-O according to the directions on the box, EXCEPT reduce the cold water portion by ¼ cup and add ¼ cup of chilled lemon-flavored vodka instead. Pour carefully into your prepared lemon peel «bowls» then chill overnight. Cut into wedges with a sharp straight edged knife (not a serrated edge knife. These are so cute! You could also use lime or orange Jell-O in lime or orange «bowls,» too!
2. Strawberry Margarita Jell-O Shot Recipe
I love using the little hollowed0out strawberries as the shot glass for these! Use a ¼ teaspoon to hollow out your strawberries, being VERY careful not to poke a hole in the bottom (or the Jell-O will run right out). Mix together a packet of strawberry Jell-O, 4 ounces of tequila, and 2 ounces of Grand Marnier. Using a small funnel, or an eyedropper, fill the strawberries with the mixture and chill overnight.
3. Rainbow Jell-O Shot Recipe
These are brilliant and colorful, with or without the cherry in them! Use the tiny plastic cups with lids to make these, and they’ll be easy as pie. Though they look really colorful, you only need 3 colors (and flavors) of Jell-O: blue, yellow and red. Make the blue Jell-O according to the instructions on the box, then pour into the bottom 1/3 of the shot cups. Chill til almost firm, then add the yellow Jell-O, made with ¼ lemon-flavored vodka in lieu of ¼ cup of cold water. Pour into the shot cups on top of the blue Jell-O, then chill again til almost firm. Make the red Jell-O according to the box, then pour on top of the yellow Jell-O and chill overnight, one more time. If you want the cherries, simply add them with the yellow Jell-O layer.
4. Creamsicle Jell-O Shot Recipe
Oh, yum! I love Creamsicles, so this is one of my favorite Jell-O shot recipes… plus it’s so easy! Use the little plastic shot cups for this one. Make the orange Jell-O according to the directions on the box, but replace ¼ cup of the cold water with ¼ cup of chilled vanilla-flavored vodka. Chill overnight, then garnish with whipped cream before serving. Messy, but so tasty!
5. Candy Cane Martini Jell-O Shot Recipe
Enjoy these around the holidays, or any time of year if you’ve got a minty-choco craving! They take a little time and patience, but they’re so worth it! Again, use the tiny plastic shot cups for these. In a small saucepan, mix together 2/3 cup water and 2 packets of unflavored gelatin. When the gelatin is dissolved, add 1/3 cup of sweetened condensed milk, remove from heat, and stir in ¾ cup of vanilla vodka, 2 tablespoons of white chocolate liqueur, and 3 tablespoons of peppermint schnapps. Pour carefully into your little cups, then chill overnight. Garnish with crushed peppermint candies just before serving.
6. Pear Cosmopolitan Jell-O Shot Recipe
I’m a sucker for anything pear flavored, so I love this Jell-O shot recipe! It looks really cute if you use a jewel-shaped silicone bake tray as a mold. Note that these are a little complicated to make, but they’re ideal for a girl’s night! Pour 1 cup of white cranberry juice cocktail and 1/8 of a cup of strained limeade concentrate into a saucepan and add 2 envelopes of Knox gelatin, stirring until dissolved. Remove from heat, then stir in ¼ cup Cointreau and ¾ cup of Grey Goose pear vodka, then pour into the baking tray. Chill overnight, then garnish with a little pear slice before serving. I love these!
7. Caramel Apple Jell-O Shot Recipe
Wouldn’t these be perfect for a Halloween party? Just halve 10 Granny Smith apples, then sprinkle with a little lemon juice to prevent browning. In a small saucepan, mix together ½ cup water with 1 packet of caramel-flavored hot cocoa, then ½ cup coconut milk and one envelope of Knox gelatin. Stir until everything’s nicely mixed. Add ¼ cup sugar and 2 drops of yellow food coloring. Remove from heat, then stir in ¼ cup of butterscotch schnapps. Pour into apples, then chill overnight. Using a sharp, straight edged knife, cut into wedges just before serving. Note that the apples will brown a little, but they’ll still taste marvelous!
