What's your favorite type of dessert?

1. Local Food

Locavores, or people who eat primarily the in-season foods grown in their community, are on to something. This summer, hyper-local foods are a hot commodity. This refers to items with very little mileage between where the food is grown and where you buy it. There are restaurants all over the world that are on the hyper-local bandwagon, but shopping at farmers' markets in your area lets you get in on the action at home too.

2. Rolled Ice Cream

Thailand started this awesome trend, but it's revving up here in the States too. This creamy summer treat is basically just thin sheets of ice cream rolled around a variety of fillings. There are some surprising creations that are sure to make this a memorable summer.

3. Tahini

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds that is common in Asian and some Middle Eastern cuisines. Much like Sriracha had its moment, tahini is now being found in everything from sandwiches to desserts and everything in between. The slightly nutter flavor melds well with many other ingredients so don't be afraid to experiment with tahini this summer.

4. Alternative Sweeteners

We've all heard that we should be limiting sugar and artificial sweeteners so what's a girl with a sweet tooth to do? There's a shift this summer that moves away from traditional sweeteners to those that are a bit more health conscious. Look for agave, honey and applesauce for sweetening your morning cup of coffee or weekend muffins.

5. Craft Soft Drinks

No more Coke for us! Craft soft drinks are going to be huge this summer and you'll probably start seeing them at restaurants and supermarkets as they continue to gain in popularity. With craft beer exploding, it makes sense that something without alcohol is following along. Craft soda has a unique flavor and isn't as full of junk as traditional sodas. Buy a soda machine and make your own if you want to experiment with flavors.

6. Street Food

Who doesn't love street food? It's gotten huge, but we're sure to see a lot more of it this summer as more and more restaurants are starting to send their menu out around town. It started with street tacos, but in 2018 you're sure to see lots more on any street in any town. Try them all! #summer goals

7. Wine on Tap

You've been able to get beer on tap for ages, but this summer, wine on tap is sure to be your favorite bar drink. Not only are restaurants dabbling with serving wine from a keg, but you can also buy your own wine keg, which will keep two bottles of wine fresh for a couple of weeks. Some hotels are even adding them to the rooms.
