1. Kale
Kale is one of the main foods you should have in your fridge. Did you know that just 1 cup of chopped kale contains 33 calories and 9% of the recommended daily value of calcium, 206% of vitamin A, 134% of vitamin C, and a super high 684% of vitamin K? It is also a great source of the minerals copper, potassium, iron, manganese and phosphorus. Kale is a great snack anytime of the day. You can even mix this with frozen berries and water for a fruit smoothie! Because of all the health benefits, kale tops the foods you should have in your fridge!
2. Bananas
Bananas are high in potassium and fiber so you should have this fruit in your fridge. The potassium in bananas is helpful in regulating your hydration levels so make sure you drink plenty of water as well. I enjoy putting bananas in my kale shakes because they add a creamy texture and sweet taste. You definitely want to have some of this nutrient powerhouse in your fridge!
3. Mushrooms
Mushrooms are high in antioxidants, low in calories and can easily be added to any snack or dish, so this is a must have for your fridge. Mushrooms also have been proven to lower your risk of cancer, so enjoy some mushrooms for disease prevention.
4. Apples
Apples are an easily portable fruit that you should have in your fridge. What is so great about apples? Apples have pectin in them, which is a natural fat burner. This powerhouse fruit also has fiber in it, and apples are one of the lower glycemic fruits, which means less sugar and fewer calories. I have at least one apple every day because of the endless health benefits.
5. Carrots
Carrots are a crunchy vegetable that is high in beta carotene. This healthy powerhouse can be dipped into a healthy homemade dip. This is a great veggie to add to your meals or even to just snack on raw. You can have carrots sliced and readily available in your fridge for those late night cravings.
6. Whole Wheat Wrap
The majority of the carbohydrates in whole wheat wraps are complex carbohydrates, so you don't have to be concerned about a rise in your blood sugar levels. You can slice veggies and grill this wrap or even sprinkle it with a little skim cheese. This is an easy satisfying snack you should have in your fridge.
7. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are great to have on hand to put in your salads, omelets or just to munch on by themselves. Tomatoes have lycopene in them, which is the most powerful antioxidant. Tomatoes can help lower your risk of cancer. Lycopene can also improve the body’s ability to protect against skin damage, so make sure you have tomatoes available in your fridge!
