7 Things to Add to Herbal Tea to Improve Your Health ...

By Heather

Herbal tea is incredibly healthy for you and there are some things you can add to your herbal tea that not only improve the taste, but also the nutrition. Herbal teas such as peppermint, lavender, lemon balm, chamomile, rooibos, or herbal tea blends are all awesome for reducing stress, improving digestion, and may even help clear your skin and help you sleep. Many people like to enjoy them all throughout the day since they’re caffeine-free and don't interfere with sleep cycles. Try a few of these things to add to your herbal tea you might not have tried yet. I'd love to hear what you think!

1. Lemon

citrus, food, fruit, produce, plant, Not necessarily the most unique thing, but certainly one of the best things to add to your herbal tea is lemon. Lemon can increase the Vitamin C content in your cuppa and it’s a great detoxifying agent to aid in cleansing the body. Lemon is also wonderful for reducing stress and it can help digestion before, during, or after a meal.

2. Ginger

dish, food, meal, produce, plant, Ginger root or dried ginger powder is fantastic for you and it’s surely easy enough to add to tea. Ginger helps reduce nausea, stress, moodiness, constipation, diarrhea, and even migraine headaches. Use several slices in your tea or sprinkle some ground ginger into your cup instead.

3. Basil

food, produce, plant, fruit, land plant, Fresh basil leaves are easy enough to add to tea and they can help improve your immune system. Basil helps fight free radicals in the body and unhealthy viruses. It also wards off stress and may help relieve tension headaches.

4. Turmeric

food, plant, produce, yellow, curcuma, I sprinkle ground turmeric into all my tea and my skin has never looked better. Turmeric is great for your liver, your blood, your skin, and best of all, it’s rather tasteless despite its bright orange color. Just be warned- it will stain your teacup if you don’t wash it right away!

As part of taking control over your health and wellbeing, it's important to pay attention to the amount of sugar you consume daily. Did you ever wonder how many grams of sugar are in a teaspoon? Understanding this can help you make healthier choices and avoid those sneaky sugars that add up throughout the day. No doubt, your body will thank you!

5. Peppermint Oil

It’s rich in menthol that improves IBS, digestion, relieves headaches and stress, and it even helps improve focus. Just don’t overdo it, a little tiny bit goes a very long way!

6. Cayenne Pepper

food, produce, flavor, baking, Cayenne pepper can help boost metabolism, lower stress, improve blood flow, and reduce inflammation in the body. Use just a tiny sprinkle in your herbal tea when you need some extra energy.

7. Lavender Oil

glass, lighting, drink, wine glass, produce, Can’t sleep? Have a cup of chamomile tea and add some essential lavender oil to your tea. It reduces stress, helps you fall asleep, and can help improve nervous system function. Like peppermint oil, you only need a tiny drop, so don’t use too much. Always buy food grade oils when buying essential oils since some used for incense or other purposes aren’t safe to consume.

You can also steep goji berries or fresh herbs and spices to make your own tea, so give those a try too. Most importantly, don’t sweeten your tea with sugar. Add some stevia if you need it sweeter and if you tolerate sugar, raw honey is fine in a small amount. Herbal tea can be consumed as much as you like and it can really change the way you feel throughout the day, especially compared to those lattes and excess energy drinks you might be turning to. I add fresh mint leaves to brewing green tea. Also a cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon is lovely and occasionally some shredded coconut but it's best to brew green tea rather than use bags anyway.
