Since it’s berry season, why not take advantage of some yummy ways to use berries to improve your health and tickle your taste buds all at one time? Berries are chock-full of antioxidants, fiber, Vitamin C, and they’re low in sugar. Instead of snacking on them plain or just throwing them in a smoothie, try something new! Here are some tasty ways to use berries that are easy, healthy, and best of all, satisfying!

1. Dip Them in Yogurt

Dip Them in Yogurt One of my favorite ways to use berries is as a healthy snack in a sweet dip. To make the dip, combine some liquid vanilla stevia, plain Greek yogurt, and a dash of vanilla extract. Stir and use as a delicious dip for any berry you like! This also makes a great snack for kids or for your next get together.

2. Grill Them

Grill Them If you’ve never had grilled strawberries, give them a try! Since strawberries are large and hearty, they’re easier to use than blueberries or blackberries. Place them on a skewer and grill for just 2-3 minutes. This caramelizes them and makes them the perfect accompaniment to frozen yogurt or even better, dark chocolate!

3. Layer a Sandwich

Layer a Sandwich Next time you make a sandwich, try adding berries instead of jam. Layer some sprouted grain bread with sliced strawberries or blueberries and add some almond butter and cinnamon. This makes a yummy breakfast sandwich or a kid-friendly lunch!

4. Use Them to Flavor Water

Use Them to Flavor Water Soak a cup of mixed frozen berries overnight in a pitcher of 4 cups cold water. Leave it in your fridge and the next day you’ll have a delicious, calorie-free infused water to enjoy all day long .You can also add some basil and mint for additional flavor, or a squeeze of lemon or lime.

As part of taking control over your health and wellbeing, it's important to pay attention to the amount of sugar you consume daily. Did you ever wonder how many grams of sugar are in a teaspoon? Understanding this can help you make healthier choices and avoid those sneaky sugars that add up throughout the day. No doubt, your body will thank you!

5. Make Sorbet

Make Sorbet Instead of just using berries in a smoothie, try taking things up a notch and turn them into sorbet. Blend two cups of frozen berries with just ¼ cup almond milk. If you don’t have a high-powered blender, use your food processor instead. In just a few seconds you’ll have a thick sorbet that’s the perfect replacement to ice cream.

6. Add Them to Salads

Add Them to Salads I love grilled chicken and grilled salmon in salads with some sliced strawberries or blackberries. This is a delicious, fresh way to enjoy berries that also makes for a healthier lunch or dinner. Use a bed of mixed greens, lean protein, and fresh berries. Then add some slivered almonds, black pepper, cucumber, and a nice vinaigrette to finish.

7. Use Them in Salad Dressing

Use Them in Salad Dressing Raspberries make for one of the best-tasting salad dressings out there. Blend ¼ cup of fresh raspberries (or thawed frozen berries) with ½ cup olive oil, a little lemon juice, a teaspoon of honey, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar for a yummy, sweet salad dressing that’s perfect in salads or as a dip for veggies.

8. Add Them to Eggs

Add Them to Eggs Making an omelet? Add some sliced berries on top when you're finished, or serve some on top of scrambled eggs. Instead of enjoying your eggs savory, sweeten them up a bit for a change of pace!

9. Make Your Own Yogurt

Make Your Own Yogurt Instead of buying fruit-flavored yogurt at the store, or those options with fruit that also include added sugars, make your own at home. Blend some frozen or fresh berries with some plain Greek or plain regular yogurt and ta-da! You've just created a much healthier version of the store bought versions without much work at all!

There are so many delicious ways to enjoy berries outside of the everyday uses most of us turn to out of habit. Embrace berries as much as possible- they’re the healthiest fruits to choose from and some of the most affordable. What’s your favorite way to eat berries?
