1. Earl Grey Tea
One of my current favorite hot drink ideas is hot, creamy tea. I recently purchased a package of Earl Grey tea. The secret ingredient to Earl Grey tea that makes it special is bergamot oil. I love bergamot oil in candles, incense, and lotions - It gives a rich, oaky and inviting scent. The oil used in Earl Grey teas is from the rind of the bergamot orange fruit. Add some milk and sugar or honey to bring out the rich flavor of this delicious tea!
2. Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Schnapps
What better way is there to warm up then to sip some hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps? Alcohol naturally brings your body temperature up so this is the perfect holiday treat for cold, gloomy weather. I can just imagine sitting by a fire, sipping this amazing hot drink! Try dark chocolate for less sweetness and a more rich chocolate flavor.
Frequently asked questions
3. Cardamom Latte
Cardamom is a spice found in India and Asia. There are green and black pods and generally the green are used for coffees and drinks, however both are used for cooking and medicinal purposes. Cardamom is actually a very expensive spice and only very little is needed for rich flavoring. It's best stored in the pod until used to preserve the flavor. Try a cardamom latte at home, grinding the spice within the beans themselves, or if you happen upon a coffee shop that makes cardamom lattes, definitely treat yourself to one! You won't be disappointed with this spiced, cinnamon-like drink.
4. Lavender Milk Tea with Tapioca
I am currently loving culinary lavender and indulge in it whenever I get the chance - be it ice cream (we have a local ice cream shop that has it!), lattes or teas. Also, if you haven't tried bubble tea, you must! It's an Asian tea drink, that's either hot, cold or frozen that comes with tapioca pearls and/or jelly pieces that sit at the bottom of your drink. Lavender milk tea with tapioca is amazing. It's a black bubble tea steamed with milk and lavender syrup. So creamy and delicious!
5. Hot Apple Cider
Hot apple cider is a holiday favorite for most. I picture sipping cider while picking out a pumpkin or a Christmas tree. It's the all-time favorite holiday drink for kids and adults alike! It's also great for soothing a sore throat.
6. Creamy Indian Chai
Chai is originally an Indian tea made with strong spices. This isn't the same chai you might be thinking of - it tastes nothing like that. Real chai, a staple of many eastern cultures, has cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and lots of sugar and cream. It's deliciously sweat, strong and spicy!
7. Hot Buttered Rum
If you're looking for another hot drink with liquor in it, especially when it's cold outside and you're not feeling a cold beer or wine, try a hot buttered rum! This drink of course has rum in it - dark rum- along with cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and, yes, a bit of butter! It will warm you up in a hurry.
