1. Bananas

Bananas To start your stay the right way and fuel your morning run, have a banana. Bananas are loaded with potassium to help fuel your body, reduce muscle cramping and regulate your hydration levels. Bananas also help to regulate your blood pressure so you are ready for a great run! Now does that explain why nearly every running race is giving away bananas before and after? Bananas are one of the best foods to help you run better.

2. Spinach

Spinach Spinach is a nutritional powerhouse because of all its vitamins and phytonutrients. Spinach also helps remove toxins from the body. Eating spinach regularly also helps strengthen your bones, which is helpful in bettering your running times! So amplify your strength by adding spinach into your food plan every day!

3. Greek Yogurt or Kefir

Greek Yogurt or Kefir Both yogurt and kefir have active live cultures to better your digestive health, reduce risks of disease and provide you with protein to aid in muscle recovery. All of these benefits will help you to run better, feel better and have more energy.

4. All Berries

All Berries Because of all the wear and tear on your body from running, berries are extremely beneficial. Berries are high in antioxidants, lower in sugar then other fruits and packed with vitamins. This will help in the recovery process of running so you can run longer and stronger!

As part of taking control over your health and wellbeing, it's important to pay attention to the amount of sugar you consume daily. Did you ever wonder how many grams of sugar are in a teaspoon? Understanding this can help you make healthier choices and avoid those sneaky sugars that add up throughout the day. No doubt, your body will thank you!

5. Salmon

Salmon Aside from providing much needed protein to the body, salmon offers Omega 3, which will reduce inflammation from you workouts and help you to recover more efficiently. For a more effective run, make sure you eat salmon at least once a week. This will help you to run more efficiently and feel better!

6. Almonds

Almonds Almonds as well as other nuts have loads of benefits to help aid you in running well. Almonds have protein as well as healthy fats. Almonds as well as other nuts help you to stay full for longer and are great to help fuel a run. They are also beneficial in lowering the risk of diabetes because they stabilize your blood sugar levels.

7. Whole Wheat Toast with Peanut Butter

Whole Wheat Toast with Peanut Butter Before a race you need to eat the most balanced and easy-to-digest food so your meal will not get in the way of you and your performance. Aside from the energy you are about to expend, your mind will go through a flood of emotions as you mentally prepare for your race. So are you fueled the proper way? You cannot fuel your race with just adrenaline alone. I find a piece of whole wheat toast and peanut butter to work best. And you will provide your body with some carbs and protein. This is a great food to help you run better since it fuels your workout.

Hope you try these foods to help you run better, feel better and have more energy. So tell me, what is your favorite running food and why?

Thanks! I wanna start running when I get up in the morning to wake me up!!

Thanks, Tara! I save all your posts, you're my virtual personal trainer All of your suggestions are spot on, I have been incorporating all of these foods into my diet since making the half-marathon my goal, and I can say I have never run faster or better, relatively speaking, of course. Raw almonds are a great recovery snack for me, and almonds and an apple or another fruit make a great quick, easy and satisfying lunch...can't wait for your next article
