Are you looking for a recipe for cherry dessert that isn't pie?

We all know pie! Pumpkin, blueberry, apple…cherry. We also know how the classics can get old.

It’s true! So here are 3 scrumptious twists on your ever-classic cherry pie. No more asking yourself where to find a new recipe for cherry dessert.

1. Cherry Cheesecake Egg Rolls

These little delights are great for individual servings for you and your guests! Dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, they’re sure to win over anyone and is one of my favorite recipes for cherry dessert.

Ingredients:

4 oz (half a package) cream cheese, softened

1 tsp lemon zest

2 ½ tbsp. sugar

½ tsp lemon juice

1 can cherry pie filling

8 egg roll wrappers (6”x6” is a good size!)

Oil for frying

Directions:

In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, lemon zest, sugar, and lemon juice. Spoon into a piping bag.

Don’t have a piping bag? No worries! Spoon into a food storage bag and cut off one of the corners! Instant piping bag!

Lay out the egg roll wrappers with one of the corners pointing at you. Use your piping bag to pipe a line of the cheesecake mixture across the center of the wrapper.

Spoon cherry pie filling, with roughly ten cherries, over the top of the cheesecake mixture.

Using water on the tip of your finger, wet the edges of the wrapper. Fold the corner closest to you up and over the cheesecake mixture, pressing it to the other side (not the other corner) of the wrapper. Roll once, then fold in the left and right sides toward the center and continue rolling until wrapped.

Lay rolled cherry cheesecake egg roll to the side, with the sealed side down, and roll the rest of your egg rolls!

After rolling all of your egg rolls, give them time to seal fully while you preheat your oil! You want your oil to reach 350 degrees. Once at temperature, fry the egg rolls in small batches until brown and crispy, roughly 2-4 minutes each side!

These are best warm, and served as I suggested above!

2. Cherry Nut Cake

This cake is a cherry dream on a plate! And it’s simple to make!

Ingredients

1 cup plain yogurt

4 eggs

2 tbsp maraschino cherry juice

¼ tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

1 box of white cake mix

½ cup finely chopped walnuts

½ cup maraschino cherries, cut into halves or quarters

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, which will ensure that your cake come out evenly baked! And spray a Bundt pan with Baker’s Joy (or butter and flour the pan, please)!

Mix together the yogurt, eggs, cherry juice, and vanilla extract. Then add in the white cake mix and that lovely little pinch of salt. Once combined, add your walnuts and cherries!

Spread your cake batter into your Bundt pan and put it in the oven or 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean, and it’s done! Now for the glaze!

Glaze Ingredients

¾ cup powdered sugar

1 tsp maraschino cherry juice

½ tsp vanilla

Milk or water, as needed for consistency

Once the cake is cooled and turned out, mix the glaze ingredients and spread over the top of the cake! Top with more walnuts, if desired!

3. Cherry Crumb Cake

This one I saved for you coffee-drinkers! This versatile cake is great for dessert, and the leftovers can be used for breakfast! It’s perfectly paired with your favorite cup of coffee or any time you do decide to enjoy it!

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

½ cup (1 stick) melted butter

½ cup milk

½-¾ cup sugar (depending on how sweet you like it!)

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp salt

2 eggs, beaten

1 can cherry pie filling

Directions:

Preheat your oven! 325 degrees. And grease a 9 x 13 pan.

Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and melted butter in a mixing bowl, stirring with a fork until nice and crumbly! If you have large clumps, stab them with your fork!

Set aside ½ cup of the crumb mixture. If you want to add nuts to your topping, now’s the time to add it to that ½ cup!

Add the milk and eggs to the larger mixture of crumbs and stir until everything is incorporated. There will be lumps, but no worries!

Pour the batter into your cake pan and spread evenly. Next, spread the can of cherry pie filling over the top of the cake batter, then sprinkle your set-aside crumb topping over the top.

Bake your cake for 40-45 minutes, beginning to check it at 35 for doneness!
