7 Best Iced Tea Recipes to Enjoy in Summer ...

It’s summer, time to break out the gauzy summer dresses, perfect your messy braid, read a trashy novel (like 50 Shades of Grey) and sip some iced tea… can you think of a better way to spend the day? I can’t! And I can’t get enough of my favorite iced tea recipes… or that naughty Christian Grey! Here are the best iced tea recipes, all ready to guzzle, sip, and share this summer.

Rhubarb Iced Tea

Technically, this isn’t an iced tea, but it’s loaded with potassium and vitamin C, and it tastes like an iced tea, so I included it in my list of the best iced tea recipes. It’s also simple to make — all you need is 8 stalks of rhubarb, cut into 3-inch strips, 8 cups of water, and 1/3 cup of sugar. In a large pot, combine the rhubarb and water, and bring to a boil. Simmer for an hour, then strain the liquid, and add the sugar (to taste). Be sure to stir well to dissolve the sugar, then allow to cool. Serve over ice (it IS iced tea, after all), and enjoy!

2

Arnold Palmer-ish

I love iced tea and lemonade, and this is one of the best iced tea recipes I’ve found that doesn’t include the liquor. You’ll need 4 English Breakfast tea bags, 3 cups water, 1 cup sugar, and ¾ cup of lemon juice. Boil the water, add the teabags, and steep for 7 minutes. Stir in the sugar and lemon juice, stirring well to dissolve. Allow to cool and serve over ice. So very good!

3

Strawberry-Basil Iced Tea

I know, I know… the combination of strawberry and basil sounds weird, not refreshing, but once you try it, you’ll see why I included it on my list of the best iced tea recipes. It’s so good, and so unique! It’s also simple to make: boil 4 cups of water, then add 8 plain old black tea bags and let it steep for 5 minutes. In a separate pan, boil 1 cup of water and ¾ cup of sugar, stirring well to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat, then add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves, and let steep for 10 minutes. Remove the leaves, then pour over 1 pound of sliced strawberries and cool. Add the tea, chill and serve. Martha Stewart recommends serving with a small bag of pistachios, and who am I to argue? The taste combination is amazing!

4

Herbal Sun Tea

I love, love, LOVE sun tea, and this is one of the best iced tea recipes I’ve found that uses solar power, rather than the stove, to brew the tea. Combine 2 tablespoons of roobios tea and either lemon verbena or mint to a tea spoon or bag, and place it in a jar filled with 2 quarts of cold water. Place in direct sunlight for 2 hours, then chill. Serve with honey or sugar to taste.

5

Orange Earl Grey Iced Tea

I adore Earl Grey tea, so I was thrilled to find this iced tea recipe! The combination of the orange and the lavender is fantastic… so refreshing! Bring 4 cups of water to a boil, and in it, steep 10 to 12 Earl Grey tea bags and the peel of one orange for 3 to 5 minutes. Pour the tea solution into a large pitcher, then add ¾ cup of orange juice, ¼ cup of sugar, and stir to dissolve. Add 4 cups of cold water, chill for an hour, then serve over ice. Yum!

Green Tea and Mango Splash

Here’s a tropical getaway without the travel agent! Simply steep 2 green tea bags in 1 cup of boiling water for 6 minutes, and pour into a large pitcher. Add 2 cups of mango nectar, and stir well. Chill for an hour, then serve over ice with a slice of mango as garnish (and to munch on when the tea is gone). Enjoy!

7

Honey Lemon Iced Tea

Just the name of this iced tea recipe conjures up cool summer breezes, doesn’t it? There’s a twist, though, that makes this entirely different than any of the other best iced tea recipes you’ve tried — dried chrysanthemum. Here goes: pour 4 cups of boiling water over a pot with ¼ cup dried chrysanthemum and 3 lemon slices. Cover and steep for 5 minutes, then stir in honey to taste. Refrigerate to chill for about 3 hours, then enjoy, without removing the lemon slices or the chrysanthemum. Having a hard time finding dried chrysanthemum? Check your local Asian grocery.

Now that you’ve seen this list of the best iced tea recipes, do you feel more prepared for a hot, hot Grey summer? I sure do! Now on to book two… steamy! Which of these iced tea recipes will you try first? Or do you have another favorite iced tea recipe to share?
