1. In Eggs

One of the best ways to use onions is with eggs. They give an egg such a great flavor. For scrambled eggs, add minced onions to the butter or cooking oil and sauté them for several minutes before adding the eggs. Minced onions also taste wonderful added to deviled eggs and a fried egg tastes heavenly topped with sautéed sliced onions. Let me know what you think!

2. As a Side Dish

I’m not sure how many people would slice into an onion as a side dish, but you can make one work for you. Peel an onion and cut it into quarters. Brush each piece of the onion with olive oil and sprinkle each with salt and pepper. Grill over medium heat until the onions soften and get grill marks Add the onions to a plate of steak and grilled veggies. Delicious!

3. As a Topping for Meat

Speaking of a thick, juicy steak, sautéed onion strips are a delicious topper for beef. If you don’t eat red meat, don’t worry because the onions also taste outstanding on chicken breasts, pork chops and even fish. Sauté the onions in olive oil or butter and season with a dab of salt and pepper and serve hot over meat.

4. Add to Soup

Any pot of soup will benefit from the addition of onions. After all, they taste good and are easy to toss in. Add onions to chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup or your favorite chili recipe. If you prefer making creamy soups, add diced, cooked onions to the mixture as you blend it. You won’t be able to see huge chunks of the onion in your soup, but you’ll love the delicious aroma and taste that the onions add.

5. Make Onion Rings

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you only ever indulge in onion rings when you go out to eat in a restaurant, you need to learn to cook them at home. There is nothing better than a heaping pile of onion rings with a fat, juicy burger. My favorite batter is a beer batter, but experiment with different recipes to find the one you like most. Once battered, fry the onion rings in hot oil until they are golden brown. I can’t wait to make them tonight!

6. Fry Them

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Fried onions are yummy, but you probably wouldn’t eat them on their own. But you can add diced onions to the pot when you make fried potatoes or green beans. They cook at about the same rate and really jazz up the flavor profile of what you’re cooking. Onions also taste fantastic with fried Brussels sprouts and fried sweet potatoes.

7. Put Them on Pizza

(Your reaction) Thank you!

One of my favorite ways to eat onions is on a slice of pizza. As the pizza cooks, the onions soften, but are still a bit crunchy. The best part is that onions go really well with a huge amount of other pizza ingredients so you can eat them in tons of combinations. I like sausage, black olives, mushrooms and onions.

Do you cook with onions often? I love to use them to make flavorful dishes in my kitchen. Obviously, I don’t eat them fried all the time because that wouldn’t be healthy, but I do indulge now and then. What’s your favorite way to cook onions?
